It’s Eclipse season; big changes are afoot! The first eclipse of the season is February 10th, at 4:32pm PST. It’s a Penumbral Lunar eclipse, meaning we won’t see the shadow of the earth on the moon, but the moon will get a little darker. If the skies are clear, the eclipse will be visible from most places, except for eastern Asia, Australia, and western Alaska.
Eclipses occur in cycles, activating one axis of the zodiac for about a year and a half. We’re transitioning out Virgo-Pisces eclipses, and into Leo-Aquarius eclipses. This is the first of the Leo-Aquarius eclipses; at the end of February, we have the last of the Virgo-Pisces eclipses. So we’re beginning a new story even while wrapping up the old one.
Eclipses act as super powered New/Full moons. Their effects can be felt weeks or even months before or after their actual date. They often usher in major changes, real material shifts in our lives. These changes usually bring us closer to our destiny, they help us get back on track, and find alignment with our purpose. The best way to understand how the eclipses affect you personally is to see where they fall in your chart. I cover which house the eclipse lands in for each sign in my horoscope videos.
A Leo full moon eclipse brings balance to Aquarius, which we’ve been working with for a couple weeks. Aquarius has to do with groups, organizations, networks, and community. It’s detached and dispassionate--considering what’s best for the group requires a certain objectivity, the ability to get outside oneself and see from a perspective that is socially negotiated. Aquarius desires to contribute to the group; it’s is the humanitarian, the activist, the scientist.
Leo, on the other hand, is full of warmth. It brings balance to Aquarius’ cool (sometimes cold) detachment by reminding us that our collective efforts (Aquarius) will be more effective if enacted with love. Leo is subjective. It’s fascinated by its unique experience, and above all else, desires to express that experience creatively. Leo is interested in joy, play, fun, and pleasure. It seeks an unblocked flow of creative energy. Leo is the artist, the queen/king, the clown, the lover.
Objectivity and subjectivity go hand in hand. There is no objective, socially negotiated perspective without individual subjectivities coming together. And, it’s precisely by finding our own unique modes of creative self expression that we find our place within the group.
There are three powerful aspect patterns associated with this eclipse. There is a grand trine in fire: the Moon in Leo, Saturn in Sag, and Uranus in Aries, making a perfect triangle. This is energetic, creative, inspiring, and passionate. Make sure you have some outlet for all this energy! Get some exercise, be creative, fight for a cause. This is wonderful for activism and speaking your truth, especially in combination with altruistic Aquarius, and impassioned Leo.
There is also a mystic rectangle formed by two trines, and two sextiles, with Uranus, the Moon, Jupiter, and the Sun. This can help us to manifest our desires; to visualize what we hope to create in the months to come, and then take action to bring it about. In the month of Aquarius, the sign of the collective, let’s envision the world we desire.
Finally, there is also a yod, a narrow triangle pointing to Chiron, with the Moon and Jupiter at the base. A yod can feel irritating, like something subtle is a little off. But if we become aware of it, it can be incredibly positive. There is a potential for deep healing here.
With Chiron in Pisces, we’re supported to become aware of addictive patterns, even subtle ones. We can be addicted to food, sex, the internet, texting, validation from others--just about anything. When we feel that pull to whatever it is that we look to to satisfy our cravings, if, even for a moment we choose to connect with the body, to drop out of the mind and into the heart, then bit by bit, moment by moment, we can loosen the hold addiction has over us. This brings freedom and deep healing.
