The total lunar eclipse in Leo today (January 21) marks the final chapter in a 2-year story. Leo, ultimately, signifies the journey of the soul, through creative pursuits, and erotic adventure; learning through its many mistakes and inadvertent woundings of others, arriving eventually at its source, the wellspring of creative/erotic energy. The treasure of the epic Lion’s quest is the true and uninhibited expression of this raw vital energy, yet, tempered by the compassion Leo gains through its adventures and misadventures. In other words, Leo’s destination is authentic self expression.
How have you come into your own in the past two years? In what ways do you feel more yourself? More free to express your creative energy without filter or inhibition or censor?
As Leo is passionate, emotional, and subjective, at its best it is balanced by the detachment, logic, and commitment to serving community of Aquarius. With the Sun in Aquarius, and with the Sun’s light eclipsed from reaching the moon, what is it we aren’t seeing? How can we integrate Leo’s subjectivity with Aquarius’ humanitarian ideals? How can we integrate head and heart?
Each of us has experienced our own unique version of this story, which can be glimpsed by the houses in which these Leo-Aquarius eclipses have occurred. To learn your house positions of these eclipses, see the tables below. (If you know your rising sign (ascendent), use that, otherwise use your sun sign).
At the time of this eclipse, Uranus is square to the Sun and Moon, bringing a spark of excitement and change. This offers us the ability to do something differently, to find creative solutions. This also may add a sense of intensity and urgency. Uranus in hard aspect like this can be difficult energy to channel. There may be a feeling of blockage while we work through some final lessons, or feel through the big energy at hand. We are being pulled in the 3 directions (Leo, Aquarius, Aries; and the 3 areas of life those represent for each of us). And sometimes we have to move through the intensity of feeling in order to figure out how to integrate or balance these areas.
Uranus square the eclipse brings together the 2-year Leo-Aquarius story with the 7-year Uranus in Aries story we’ve each gone through. Uranus brings freedom through destabilization and change. And in Aries, this relates to identity, selfhood, initiative, impetus. I’ll add the house placements for Uranus in Aries as well, so you may connect the Uranus story better to your own life. (In March Uranus will be shifting into Taurus, and therefore into a new house--a new area of life for each of us).
At the time of the eclipse, Venus and Jupiter are conjunct, which signifies luck, dreams, manifesting our desires. While an eclipse, with a square to Uranus can be intense, even a little hard, this Venus/Jupiter aspect brings in some softness and sweetness. And as it is square to Mars, we are offered the impetus to act on our dreams and desires. Uranus too can inspire us to make the changes we need to find greater freedom, to shift toward a life that is in greater alignment with that inherent Leo creative force within us.
Be gentle with yourself. This is big energy. Give yourself the time and space to move through your feelings; you will find balance in due time. My love to all of you.
PS A big thank you to those who came to my talk on Thursday, and to Banyan Books for hosting; if anyone (whether you were there on not) wants the slides to my talk, please shoot me an email.
