This New Moon is smack in the middle of Sagittarius (15 degrees Sag) on the night of December 6th on the very day that Mercury stations direct in an exact trine to the North Node and Chiron AND there’s an exact conjunction between Mars and Neptune, square to the New Moon.
Is it getting louder, brighter, bigger? That’s Sagittarius. What a lift in the mood after Scorpio (even if Mercury and Venus are still there). Don’t get me wrong. I love Scorpio (actually, it’s my favourite). But we all need a break at some point. We’ve been underground for a while, and goddess, the sky is beautiful, now that we’ve come up for air.
Sag likes to get up high where it can look out over the horizon, see the big picture, and set its sights on new adventures. Sag at heart is about expansion, and the most important form of expansion, in my books, is the consciousness kind.
Can we stretch our mind-hearts bigger to take in more points of view, more philosophies, more kindness, more love? Can we overcome our fears and our assumptions? Can we get out of the way? Consciousness will expand of its own accord if we can set aside our egos long enough.
With the Sagittarian visionary mind fired up in concert with a Mars-Neptune conjunction, DREAMS are up. Day-dreams, night-dreams, and the dreams we don’t know are dreams: delusions, illusions, and confusions, and should we add, the dream that is life?
If we can steer clear of deception, then Mars+Neptune can inspire us to believe in possibility, to pursue our vision, to imagine our path and then to actually walk it. They facilitate compassionate action. They enable true service.
There’s a lot of fear-based astrology out there--astrologers who’ll have you worried for all the tricks Mars-Neptune will pull. But if we walk, trot, canter toward our dreams, the gods’ll be too busy to be playin tricks on us. At least for the most part. And if the tricks do transpire, we’ll be more likely to see the deeper meaning.
Like those pesky Mercury retrograde mishaps. I felt this past Merc Retro in a much more stereotypical way than usual. Emails that never arrived, miscommunications, delayed plans, altered plans, cancelled plans, bureaucratic complications…. Is there a cosmic point to minor annoyances? Mercury is a trickster afterall.
If the planetary energy goes retro, and we keep pushing forward, we get blocked. The message may be, slow down, go within, reconsider, reflect. The funny thing is it’s a struggle to stop struggling. All our education and social messaging is: be productive, be efficient, hack your life, go faster, do more, bag your bucket list. Bleh. For what?! Sensitivity and richness and insight and wisdom only come from going the other way.
It’s pretty hilarious if you think about it. What a sense of humour Mercury has! To make mischief when we don’t heed it’s cycles. What divine jokes.
Mercury stations direct in an exact trine to the North Node in Cancer, and Chiron in Pisces uniting the water signs in harmonious flow. This upliftment might help us integrate all the feelings, hard conversations, difficult news, recovered memories, acknowledgment of trauma--all that hard work we’ve been doing in the past months. The North Node in Cancer calls us toward our evolution through the care and support we give and receive with our closest loves.
I generally don’t find that enforcing some intention-setting routine every month is really helpful. Each month has a different energy, and carries different lessons. But this one is ripe for intention. Sag is optimistic, open to possibility, and as mage, dreams the future into being. With Jupiter here too, this New Moon doesn’t begin just the usual monthly and yearly cycles, but also the 12-year Jupiter cycle (Jupiter takes 12 years to go around the zodiac).
Knowing the house in your birth chart in which Jupiter + the New Moon falls can give you insight into what area of your life is being activated. I show you how to get this info in my free video course, here. Or, just set the intentions that are close to your heart.
