The Full Moon in Sagittarius was exact early this morning (June 17th) at 26 degrees, very close to its ruler, Jupiter, also in Sag. Jupiter is square Neptune (exact June 16th)--the second of three squares this year (the others being Jan 13 and Sept 21), and sextile Saturn (exact Tuesday June 18th). Both aspects will be within a degree (ie exact) all week, so we have a little time to work with them.
At the peak of the Gemini cycle, Sagittarius offers a breath of fresh air, an escape from the city, an expansive view. It’s a moment to pause and take it all in. An opportunity to grasp the bigger picture before going back to the details and business of it all. As we talked about two weeks ago, this lunar cycle is about stories, and how the stories we tell shape our world and experience. Sag helps us to glimpse what world we are creating, whether intentional or not.
Gemini works from the bottom-up: talk to story to worldview. Sag works from the top-down: belief to philosophy to talk. We need both. This is a time to consider our beliefs. But not necessarily the beliefs we intentionally hold; the beliefs that are implied by our thoughts and words.
What must you believe to be true given what you say and think? What are the hidden beliefs underlying the ordinary workings of your mind?
Our philosophy isn’t always what we think it is or want it to be. But now we have an opportunity for adjustment. Jupiter square Neptune activates our fantasies. While this can be a potent moment for dreaming our desires into being, it may also reveal where we have fantasies that are self-defeating, negative, or delusional. The immediately following Saturn sextile Neptune offers the opportunity to adjust our fantasies so they are more in line with reality, and to make plans and take practical steps toward our dreams. This is a powerful week for aligning our vision and working magic around it.
Jupiter square Neptune can also induce escapism or addictive tendencies. Be gentle with yourself if that’s the case, and seek to channel the energy into activating your dreams and imagination.
While the Full Moon itself is buoyant and optimistic, it’s embedded in a period of time that is a little more rough around the edges. A little jargon for you astro-nerds: There is a buildup of planets in Cancer-Capricorn, as we ramp up toward an eclipse in each of these signs this July. Saturn and Pluto are only 4 degrees apart in Capricorn across from Mars and now Mercury in Cancer. This opposition is highlighted as the Mars--Saturn opposition perfected last Friday, Mercury conjunct Mars is exact on Tuesday, and Mars opposite Pluto is exact Wednesday. The Moon will be in Capricorn this Tuesday and Wednesday further highlighting this very activated Cancer-Capricorn axis.
If you don’t know what this year’s eclipses are about for you, you should be getting some hints (or news blasts) this week. What are the major stories, the big shifts, underway in your life right now? The eclipses relate to changes that take about a year and a half to two years to fully run their course, so these are big themes, big changes. I’ll be talking a lot more about the eclipses in the coming weeks. I’ll will put out some material (a video maybe) about them soon to help you navigate this powerful energy.
The short version of the eclipse story: we have a lot of work ahead of us. The next year, at best, will be a test of our endurance, an opportunity to put our heads down and work towards something powerful and enduring. And we have this moment now to check in with our biggest dreams, our grandest visions--to make any adjustments to those so they are yolked to reality in order that they can change it--so that our efforts over the coming year are in alignment, and toward a purpose: the purpose of building our dreams into being.

FORECASTS COMING SOON
I like writing these moon posts during the lunations--I often write them during the exact moment of the New and Full Moon. That way I can really feel into the energy and transmit its meaning to the best of my abilities. This is a way of using astrology for reflection, understanding, and insight. I believe this to be perhaps the most potent use of astrology. However, I recognize that people also appreciate forecasts--a description of the energy before it occurs. I plan to start writing forecasts in the next couple months, in addition to these moon posts. Stay tuned! And in the meantime I would love to hear from you regarding what is most helpful, and what kinds of forecasts you’d like to see. Do you enjoy a breakdown of every aspect separately, or a synthesis of the overall meaning, overall feel, for a particular period of time?
