The Moon is New in Gemini today (Monday, June 3rd). Gemini is the sign of twins, of twos, because Gemini communicates, transmits, translates--from one to the other. There must be two for a message to be relayed--even if the other is another within.
Gemini’s great gift is as storyteller--the one who weaves the cloth of cosmos through word, who literally creates worlds--not in a grand scheming overarching theory-of-the-universe kindof way, but through shooting-the-shit. Through chit chat. Through myth, and jokes, and fairy tales, and long yarns, and tall tales. Through all the ways of sharing story.
And over the days of talking, and years, and millenia, those stories tend to take some shapes more than others. Those shapes wear tracks then ruts then roads of sentences and tropes and narratives into our minds, giving structure to the psyche, and offering the possible routes thought may take, for any one story only ever riffs off all the stories (Story).
Over the years, story-roads twist and turn, and spawn new routes, new stories, but only ever in response to or dialogue with or opposition to the well-worn routes, only within the tangled ecosystem of all the stories that ever were: Story.
And it is this Story, this emergent psychic ecosystem, not created by any one person or god, but shaped by all people and all stories that ever were. And the worlds we live in are made by what elements of this Story we participate in; the stories that were told to us, and the stories we tell.
This Story-cosmos is something most of us aren’t aware of--because we are in it. Everything we do and think and say is structured by Story. It is like the air we breath--not something we need attend to unless it is toxic. And so, for many, at many times, Story is unacknowledged.
But hey guess what, as you know, so many of our stories are toxic indeed. So this is a beautiful month to bring more awareness to those internal dialogues that will reveal the stories you have breathed, to the stories that you inherited whether you like it or not, and that now structure your mind and life.
See what you think. Watch what you say. Read what you write. And come to know yourself better. Awareness is required if we wish to have a little more agency with regards to our stories--and our world.
And with that awareness you may come to see new stories taking shape. You may create stories as antidotes to the poison we drank. Story as inspiration, as magic, as possibility. A new logic, a new road. There is a reason the word spell refers both to word and magic, for what we spell with letters casts the spells of our lives.
On the deepest level, Gemini’s communication skills can be put to use in communion with the spirit realm. Whether in dialoguing with Self, or god/dess, or plant teachers, or guides, or ancestors--to my mind, this is Gemini’s greatest gift.
And for this, Gemini’s penchant for curiosity serves well. Gemini knows how to pose a good question, and questions make the (inner) quest; they show the next step, they make the trail. So before trying to glimpse the big plan, your whole future, your new story--try asking a question. And then listen.

Despite the hype, the New Moon is really not a good time to set intentions: When the Moon is New, it is dark; it is drowned by the light of the Sun. The Moon as our emotional nature feels into the darkness, to release the previous cycle, to empty out so that it may listen, so it may receive the seeds of insight for the new month.
Clarity will come, but first one must be silent. It is only once the Moon moves out from under the glaring beams of the Sun that it begins to catch some light, that it receives wisdom and guidance and insight and may start to feel its way forward.
It’s in the days following the New Moon that the time is ripe for beginning anew. And what a time it will be for cutting some new trails through the mind-forest; for intentionally writing for yourself new sentences that shape the world in which you wish to live.
Tuesday and Wednesday, the Moon visits Mars and the North Node in Cancer, opposing Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, and will show us the link between this Gemini New Moon cycle and the coming eclipse cycle (July). By mid-day Thursday, the Moon moves on into Leo, and it should be easier to discern our direction.

A story: I’ve always had insomnia, but only recently have I stopped fighting it. (And now “insomnia” feels like the wrong word). Last night I awoke around 3:00am, when the New Moon was exact. With hardly a thought, I stole into the night--almost dawn, to seek rose--in full-bloom in these parts. And I found some drooping with the weight of ripeness over a neighbour’s fence, about to drop it’s petals, so I borrowed them (pictured above).
Venus continues in Taurus till June 8th: super lush and sweet and beautiful. Last night Venus was exactly conjunct my own Venus, which perhaps accounts for this particular compulsion to forage Rose at dawn. To me, Rose is perfectly resonant with Venus in Taurus--its scent of love and harmony and sweetness. I sat in prayer in the growing light as the chorus of birds grew around me and I honoured the New Moon and it was beautiful.
